One of a kind book on Pittsburgh sports

Rush - November 27th 2010

(review from Hardcover)

For those that are unaware, Mr. John Steigerwald has been a fixture in the Pittsburgh sports media for what seems like forever. He's not your typical media sports junkie that looks at the athletes and teams he covers as superhuman Gods. Rather, Mr. Steigerwald is a refreshing breath of air and a rarity in sports media - especially in Pittsburgh. He has a unique opinion, and although I do not always share his views it is very interesting.

Go to your local bookstore or Amazon and you will see dozens of Pittsburgh sports books. All of them have something in common - they relive the many glories and triumphs and tell many of the same stories we have all heard for years. Certainly those books are good in their own right, but the gloss tends to get old. Mr. Steigerwald's book gives a different view and tells the stories you have not heard about Pittsburgh sports.

I've been waiting for Mr. Steigerwald to write a book like this for many years and I am delighted he finally delivered. There is not another book like it on the shelves. Here's hoping Mr. Steigerwald adds decides to write another.

I just finished reading the ePub version. I'm still laughing over the content of chapter 17.

Can't wait for the sequel.

I just tore through this book on on my Kindle and it’s a very interesting read. Haven’t read a book that fast in some time.

It’s not often that someone will name names and that’s one of the things that makes it stand out.

Just Watch The Game

BM - April 23rd 2011

I read the author's blog site with the same name. I like most of what the author writes on his blog. Since he is from Pittsburgh and only about 10 years older than myself, I can relate to what he is talking about. He was stumping for his book, so I thought I would take a chance. I'm about halfway through the book and I'm finding it enjoyable. As the title suggests, it is slanted toward sports and how it affected his life. If you're of a certain age and long for the days of your youth, you'll get the book.

An enjoyable read... learned a few things too!,

B&G - April 14th 2011

Steigerwald certainly has his opinions, some I agree with, some I don't, but he is honest. His writing style is enjoyable, his stories sometimes outrageous, and you turn each page not knowing what will be next. As a Pittsburgher that hasn't seen a Pirates winning season since elementary school, I hung on each word of what baseball meant to the area at one time. A very enjoyable read, ranging from hilarious to enlightening to shocking.

Just read the book

BlacknGold - January 12th 2011

I grew up watching John and I always thought his slant on sports was interesting and made me think about sports from a different prospective. He reminds me of the guy who goes to a Steeler party wearing a Raiders jersey just to get on peoples nerves. After reading the reviews I decided this. Who cares what other people think! If you want some stories about a sport beat writer during Pittsburghs dynasty years then Just read the book. I gave the book 4 stars cause I noticed that the book didnt have a 4 star review yet. John, I liked the book.....or did I?
